Disabled access
Due to Edinburgh's many hills, cobbles and steps you may be forgiven thinking that it is not an accessible city. Here at Edinburgh Spotlight, we include disabled access information in EVERY review we write and the place / venue / restaurants' suitability for those less mobile and for wheelchair access. We personally check every location and don't take the venue's word for it or make any assumptions.
There are of course, some places which are completely inacessible, but thanks to schemes such as Disabled Go and Edinburgh Spotlight you can plan your visit to Edinburgh so that you enjoy everywhere you can go. Disabled Go's guide to entertainment and culture places which are disabilty friendly are written with the community's input.
Travelling around Edinburgh by bus is now possible thanks to Lothian Region Transport buses having low floor - easy access across their entire fleet. For those that can't manage by bus, there is Handicabs who operate a dial-a-ride and dial-a-bus service. Many of the Edinburgh taxi's are wheelchair friendly.
There is also the very good Shopmobility at the Gyle shopping centre and Ocean Terminal run their own scheme. There is also the Shopmobility Mobile branch who cover events throughout Edinburgh.
If you are driving there are many disabled car parking spaces around town, but unfortunately due to the tram works, there are less than usual. Up to date information on the council website.
If you need any further information on where is suitable for your needs, then please email us for specific advice.
