The 2018 Virgin Money Fireworks Concert took place on Monday 27th August 2018.

Behind the scenes with Pyrovision

We were lucky enough to be invited behind the scenes at Edinburgh Castle to see the complex set up of the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert that marks the end of the Edinburgh International Festival.

Speaking to the staff members of Pyrovision, we learned that it takes fifteen people to set up the fireworks over eight days in all weathers.

However, the work begins in the spring when Keith Webb, one of the directors of the company, is given the music that the Scottish Chamber Orchestra will be playing on the night. It is his job to synchronise a fireworks display to the pieces of music.

It takes a couple of months to correctly select and label the three and a half tonnes of fireworks ahead of their transport to Edinburgh Castle.

There are an estimated 250,000 people who watch the fireworks from all over the city. It is definitely a highlight in the Edinburgh events calendar.
