Each year The City of Edinburgh Council invites organisations and individuals in the City to nominate persons for consideration for presentation of the Award for Good Citizenship instituted by the Will of the late Sir William Y Darling, Lord Provost of Edinburgh (1941-1944The Award is made to the citizen or citizens of Edinburgh who, in the opinion of the Council, “has or have done most for the City’s Honour and Welfare” during the preceding year.
Lynne McNicoll, founder of It’s Good 2 Give is this year’s recipient and was presented with the award by Edinburgh’s current Lord Provost, Rt Hon Donald Wilson.
Lynne said, “I am thrilled to receive this award as Edinburgh is my home city and to be recognised as a good citizen in the place I live is an honour.”
It’s Good 2 Give is a charity that helps families affected by cancer and they have raised £750,000 to date. They will start the building work on their ‘Ripple Retreat‘ next year so that families can spend some quality time together in the purpose-built home.
They have fundraising events throughout the year which are staffed entirely by volunteers, so every penny raised goes to the charity.
Local celebrity Grant Stott and author Sara Sheridan are patrons of this small, but ambitious charity.
