EVENT – Night in the Garden, 30th October – November 23rd 2014

Night in the Garden

Night in the Garden

Night in the Garden sees a magical trail of light throughout The Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh

We’ve experienced what’s in store at The Botanics this autumn with their Night in the Garden event. As darkness falls, you follow a magical trail of light and sound. Some of the Garden’s favourite features, like the Pond and the Victorian Palmhouse, have been used as backdrops for extraordinary light effects.

We don’t wish to spoil anyone’s experience, by giving away all the details, but it is certainly a way of seeing the Botanics like never before.

Setting off at regular intervals, ticket holders are allowed to experience the trail at their own pace. Staff are on hand to point you in the right direction.

Some of the installations are on ‘loops’ of light and sound and will take longer to appreciate.

The cafe is open for hot drinks and mulled wine and it’s positively encouraged to take your time and re-visit the highlights of the gardens.

Cameras and tripods are allowed. If you do plan to shoot the experience, just let the staff know as you turn up that you are doing it for personal use with no commercial gain.

The event is family and wheelchair friendly and is a little over a 1km trail through the gardens. Although the paths are lit, some parts of the gardens are still dark for young ones, so keeping a close eye on them is recommended. The children that were there when we walked around were hyper and running to the trees lit up and then off in another direction. Voice recognition is definitely required!

The partners of Night in the Garden are Unique Events, Black Light and light artists Malcolm Innes and Euan Winton from Napier University.
