Two friends challenge themselves to ride every Edinburgh Lothian bus in descending numerical order for charity
It started off as a conversation in the pub between friends Chris Dunn and Neil Gregory. Was it possible for them to ride every Lothian Bus in descending numerical order in one day?
They knew they would have to run a lot of miles in between the bus rides, but they didn’t expect the overwhelming support from the Edinburgh public.
The Lothian Bus Geeks only joined twitter yesterday as @LothianBusGeek and when we got wind of their challenge we started spreading the word. We suggested they used the #edinbusgeek hashtag to make it easier for people to follow their adventures throughout today.
It was originally supposed to be a practice run for future charity challenges, but thanks to enthusiastic supporter Peter Matthews, a Just Giving page was set up earlier today with all monies raised going to the excellent It’s Good 2 Give.
Lothian Buses have been offering their support and encouragement who have It’s Good 2 Give as their Charity of the Year.
Donations have poured in all day and we hope the total rises as Chris and Neil continue their challenge into this evening.
You can donate here and any amount is welcome. Lots of people have been donating multiples of £3.50, a price of a day saver ticket.
It’s estimated that they will run approximately 22 miles today which is a challenge in itself! They’ve been giving media interviews on the bus and speaking to radio stations as people get wind of their feel-good story.
Good luck guys, we think you’re amazing!

The Lothian Bus Geeks write up their story.
The Edinburgh Bus Geek guys are still smiling but are cold and getting tired. The total raised so far with Gift Aid is over £1500.
Update: 11.29pm challenge finished!
Well, Chris and Neil have finished their challenge by stepping on their last bus. Due to a few logistic and timing problems, they didn’t quite manage all the buses, but what they have managed to do is simply amazing.
They’ve taken a geeky thought, put it into practise and raised a lot of money in the process. Thousands of people have been following their efforts throughout the day and hundreds of donations made.
We can’t wait to hear what the final mileage that they ran was and the GPS map of their adventure.
Now go and have a rest Edinburgh Bus Geeks (after a celebratory drink of course).
