An exhilarating cycling event coming to Edinburgh’s Grassmarket
Hundreds of cyclists will descend on Edinburgh on Saturday 30th March 2013 for Scotland’s first ever Red Bull Hill Chasers 2013 – the UK’s only multi-discipline uphill cycling race, which will see the city’s historic Grassmarket transformed into a gruelling race track for one night only.
Now in its third year, having previously been held in Bristol and Malaysia, the unique urban event will give 500 bike enthusiasts – from BMX, mountain bike, road cycling and fixed-gear disciplines a chance to race against their heroes, including world-renowned riders Michal Prokop and Jack Pullar.
Register to take part before 22nd March
Bike enthusiasts from Scotland and across the UK are being encouraged to register to take part by visiting www.redbull.co.uk/hillchasers. The closing date for entries is midnight on Friday 22 March.
Battling head-to-head to settle the long-standing dispute between disciplines, amateur racers will be invited to take part in an individual, timed hill sprint to prove that their discipline is the fastest and to qualify for the main event.
The fastest 30 riders from qualifiers will be selected for the main event where they will go up against 10 of the UK’s most elite cycling legends in a bid to be crowned Red Bull Hill Chasers 2013 ‘King of the Hill’ with a chance to win prizes provided by Charge Bikes.
The international competition will take place on the cobbles of the Grassmarket and Victoria Street – a challenging 170m uphill sprint beneath the dramatic Edinburgh skyline.
Michal Prokop, three times World Champion four-cross cyclist, said; “I’m really looking forward to visiting Edinburgh for the first time for this years Red Bull Hill Chasers! The race atmosphere is going to be amazing.”
Neil Cousins of Charge Bikes, who will be supplying custom-made bicycles to the winners, said; “Charge Bikes are proud to be supporting Red Bull for the 3rd annual Hill Chasers event. After 2 years in Bristol, local to Charge, we are traveling further afield to enjoy the stunning sights that Edinburgh has to offer.
It is always a highlight to see everyday riders coming to an event like Red Bull Hill Chasers and racing the pros, sometimes beating them too. The racing is definitely going to be fast and furious.”
The qualifying rounds will be held from 6am on Saturday 30 March, with the main event setting off at 7pm. For your chance to compete against the elite as one of the 30 amateur riders please visit www.redbull.co.uk/hillchasers and register for your place in the qualifiers.
Viewing this event will be FREE, but you’ll need to get there early to get a prime position!
