Edinburgh’s Sir Chris Hoy won two medals in the London 2012 Olympics and took his total record of gold Olympic medals won to six. The Royal Mail stated they would paint a postbox gold in the home town of every winner and the first one in honour of Sir Chris and his first track medal was painted in Hanover Street last week.
In the early hours of this morning, a second one in Hunter Square was painted after he won his second gold medal last night. We think they’re great and hope they stay like this for many months.
Update May 2016
Mark Brown caught the latest addition to the postbox – a golden bike!
Update July 2013 – Both of the gold postboxes are to remain gold permanently and now have plaques to explain why they are gold.
