Leith Festival returns for 2012
The Leith Festival is proud to return for 2012 despite funding troubles, and the jam-packed programme in and around the heart of Leith is available now.
The Festival kicks off on Friday 8 June and runs until Sunday 17 June, with an exciting line-up of 170 free or low cost events at 36 venues, showcasing home grown artistic and musical talent, local theatre and dance groups.
Leith Pageant is returning to Leith Walk, and will end on the Links, the site of the Gala Day bringing together performers and locals.
Gala Day is the traditional community event that has been a crucial part of the Festival for over 100 years, celebrating all strands of the community in a day of multi-cultural arts.
Leithers rallied to the call when in December last year, the Leith Festival committee held emergency meetings. Thanks to fundraising friends of Leith Festival, the event can go ahead again this year.
Some other events of note are:
Taylors Funfair (including the special needs morning on 7th June), free guided tours of Trinity House, a Tea Dance, Bellydancing at the Parlousr Bar, Trainspotting Tours and a pop-up Boutique shop in Balfour Street.
There’s plenty of choice for all the family with many of the events free.
Discounted dining during the Festival
Local food businesses are helping out by offering discounts during the Festival.
Los Cardos are offering 20% off purchases, Iso Bar are doing 2 for £10 on their lunch menu, The Constitution will give you 30% off your food bill and Tapa Barra y Restaurante are doing lunches for 2 for £10 including a soft drink.
To take advantage of these great deals, you need to show your Festival programme or a relevant tickets stub.
The printed programme is now available from venues across Leith or the office at 17 Academy Street, Leith.
