The story of their show this year – Balls Deep – is therefore about the band clawing their way back to the top.
“Yes,” says guitarits Luke Real. “Ray’s had a slight costume change from last year’s catsuit. He now thinks he actually is a cat…”
Rayguns Look Real Enough is a comedy musical mashup featuring the duo’s unique style and onstage persona.
“There’s something for everyone,” says Luke. “All the best bits from the best songs, played on acoustic guitar and tambourine.”
“This year it will be like a stadium show,” adds Ray. “And we’re hoping to have an interactive rap battle in it too.”
Last year saw the pair debut in Edinburgh with a free show.
“Doing the free Fringe is no less hard work,” says Ray. “We worked our socks off and it was absolutely amazing – if a little bit messy.”
And how do they feel they compare to those other maestros of the mashup at the Fringe, Frisky & Mannish?
“There’s obvious similarities,” says Luke. “We’ve played on the same bill before and we actually complement each other – we’re totally different, really.”
And after this comeback tour at this year’s Fringe?
“We’ll keep on working,” says Ray. “Doing as much as we can, looking for bigger events to play.”
“That and lining up the world tour and getting our own plane with a bar on it.”
Rayguns Look Real Enough will be performing at the Assembly throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 3rd – 29th August. For more information and tickets see www.edcomfest.com
