Tell us a little bit about your show – where’s it happening, what’s it about, why should people come to see it?
My show is Marcel Lucont Etc. It is a chat show. I will provide the ‘Marcel Lucont’ part, and my guests are the “Etc.” It is at the Underbelly, and will have two different guests every night. You do not have to attend every show, but I would certainly recommend that you do this. There will, of course, be new world-class material from me.
What are you expecting from the Edinburgh Fringe?
Aside from the usual acclaim, I am expecting people to see also my true versatility. “Of course,” they say, “Marcel has brought two wonderful shows to the Edinburgh Fringe, full of wit, poetry, chansons and advice, but can he maintain this level of excellence in a different format? Ah, yes he can.”
I expect to come out of the Edinburgh Fringe with my own TV channel.
What’s been your strangest experience performing the show so far?
Performing the show at Adelaide Fringe at the start of the year proved a truly bizarre month, including a locust invasion, a world-record-beating staring attempt, a petomane performing an ill-advised move requiring a change of trousers, and a masturbating transvestite from Darwin with a hunting knife. I wish this last one was untrue, but it is still burned into my mind.
If money was no object, what publicity stunt would you do to promote your show?
A giant inflatable Marcel, hovering constantly over the city for a month, and at least providing some shelter from the inevitable summer downpours.
Who else are you planning or hoping to see?
I enjoy to see the unique and bizarre productions as far from the mainstream as possible. Often I am the only person in the audience. This assures me not only that I have seen something unique, but also assures me of my own success.
What do you have planned for after the Fringe?
Is this a chat-up line? If so, my time is very precious. Make me an offer, and we shall see…
