The magical and surreal world of Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth & Other Stories, which Lana has written and directs, is a little hard to explain.
“It’s a strangely structured piece – unusual and unique. There’s storytelling and narration linking the the stories; and the whole piece is aesthetically spectacular – a balance between stark and pleasant.”
Through use of physical theatre, mime, puppetry and storytelling, Lana hopes the show will create a unique and memorable experience for those who come to see it.
“It’s slightly reminiscent of arthouse cinema,” continues Lana. “There’s an oddness to it; with deliberate use of colour. And although it’s very contemporary, it’s also relatable.”
The Fringe will be the first real appearance of Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth and Other Stories.
“I’ve directed several pieces before,” says Lana, “but this is a complete departure! I’m enjoying it a lot – and I’m really hoping that other people enjoy it too. That really is the most important thing to me.”
Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth & Other Stories appears at theSpaces @ Symposium Hall from 8-27 Aug (not Sundays) at 20:30. More details are on the Fringe website.
