“It was a nightmare!” says Brett Goldstein. “All the men involved had collectively lost their minds!”
He’s talking about the true story behind his debut solo show, Brett Goldstein Grew Up In A Strip Club.
“My dad had a spectacular midlife crisis,” he laughs. “I initially went out for 3 weeks; but ended up running the place for a year.”
“No-one involved had any experience,” he recalls. “There were a lot of things to deal with – a strip club attracts a lot of bad people…”
“The show is the funniest version of the story – I could have written a really dark horrible version of it!”
Brett has been up in Edinburgh many times: first as an actor and writer, then more recently as a comedian, where he’s appeared in several group standup shows.
“This show’s different from anything I’ve done before,” he says. “It’s self-contained, a story; it could work outside traditional comedy venues.”
“And I love Edinburgh,” he continues. “It’s like some kind of weird vortex! Every year I arrive there feeling like I never left!”
Brett will be performing his show ‘Brett Goldstein Grew Up In A Strip Club’ throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 3rd-29th August at The Pleasance. For more information and tickets see www.edcomfest.com.
