Alfie Joey - Monopolise!
Tell us a little bit about your show – where’s it happening, what’s it about, why should people come to see it?
I’m performing my one man comedy musical ‘Monopolise!’ at The Pleasance, for one show only on August 22nd. It’s about a song and dance cop who tries to catch a killer who works his way around the streets of a popular registered trade mark board game. I play up to 20 characters with various hats and wigs and voices.
What are you most looking forward to about coming back to Edinburgh?
Even though it’s a flying visit, I can’t wait to be part of the most exciting arts festival in the world in a city that was meant to host it!
What’s been your strangest experience performing the show so far?
I did a preview of the show for the Houghton Le Spring Women’s Institiute and they paid me with a huge hamper of jams and chutnies!
If money was no object, what publicity stunt would you do to promote your show?
In 2003 I put on a show in my car – Alfie Joey’s Mini Cabaret – which people still ask me about now. Maybe I should have put this on in the car then I’d only need to sell 4 tickets to sell out!
Who else are you planning or hoping to see?
I love the physical theatre character/comedy shows by troups like Spymonkey, Population 3 & Mr. Winchester (who went on to become Shooting Stars’ Angelos). Those are the type of shows I make a beeline for.
What do you have planned for after the Fringe?
I’ll be doing a mini tour of the North East of England after the festival.
Sum up your show in three words for us:
Murderous family fun!
Alfie Joey – Monopolise! is on at the Pleasance Courtyard on 22 Aug only at 20:30. More details are available on the Fringe website.
