What’s on in Edinburgh 6th – 12th June 2011

It’s hard to keep up with everything that’s going on in Edinburgh at the best of times, but in the summer there seems too many events to choose from.

In a new feature (beta), we bring you a list of interesting events on this coming week (Monday 6th June – Sunday 12th June inclusive).  The event will either be linked to an information page, or where we have previewed it in more detail.   There will also be links to new places opening in town and other snippets of news.

Monday 6th June:

Candy Cupcake is scheduled to open in Marchmont.

Wednesday 8th June:

Jim Jam Jog at the Royal Botanical Gardens. Run, jog or walk the 5k route in aid of the British Heart Foundation. 7pm.

Thursday 9th June:

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival Society launch their 2011 programme.

An evening with the legendary John Cleese at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre (also 10th and 11th).  8pm

Friday 9th June:

Leith Festival community opening night. 7-9pm.

Saturday 11th June:

Edinburgh’s Farmer’s Market

Leith Festival Gala day – 11am – 4.30pm

Open day at Craigie’s Farm.  Fun for all the family, 11am – 3pm (also Sunday).

Scotland’s Strongest Man at Meadowbank –  noon to 5pm.

Edinburgh’s World Naked Bike Ride 3pm

The Auld Reekie Roller Girls play another home game at Meadowbank – 2pm.

Free outdoor films are on at Festival Square as part of the Film Festival (also Sunday, Monday, Tuesday).

Emily Baker is playing Live at Loudons, 7pm.  With their new alcohol license, this is a great place to spend the evening whilst listening to some live music.

The 10:04s play at the Liquid Rooms, 9pm

The Edinburgh Moonwalk (from 10pm and through the night). Thousands of people will be raising money for charity by walking 13 or 26 miles through the streets of Edinburgh.  If you’re out and about, make sure to cheer everyone on that’s raising money for breast cancer.

Sunday 12th June:

The Bike Station’s Postcode Challenge. 10am – 4pm, fun for all the family in this cycling teasure hunt. Free.

The Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland take place at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre.

As part of the Leith Festival, a wonderful Deco Dance from Miss Fitz-Poste Modern Mixers. 6 – 9pm, Queen Charlotte Rooms.  Book online, tickets only £6.
