A refreshing new cafe/gallery in Edinburgh’s New Town
It’s not often we fall in love instantly with a new cafe in Edinburgh, but as we stepped through the doors of Bon Papillon it was love at first sight.
Bon Papillon is a gallery, a cafe and a framers. The walls are decorated with beautiful artwork and the staff are incredibly welcoming. The framers part of this cafe/gallery is situated at the rear of the shop so doesn’t disturb those in for a light bite or coffee and cake.
We’ve been a few times in the last couple of weeks and munched our way through freshly baked cheese scones, delicious filled rolls and of course, sampled their excellent home made cake.
The prices are incredibly good value for the New Town with a pot of tea only £1.50 and a generous slab of cake at £1.75.
Bon Papillon pride themselves on freshly made rolls which are plated up with salad and hand-made crisps (also available to take-away).
Glossy magazines are available to read every day and on the weekends, there’s papers and Sunday magazines galore.
We’ve tried their cheese scones straight out of the oven that were heaven on a plate, shortly followed by a piece of orange cake served with creme fraiche which was so deliciously moist, I wanted another. They also had a chocolate flour-free option of cake.
The poppyseed rolls filled with smoked salmon hit the mark one lunch time visit and the accompanying coffee was so good, my dining companion immediately asked for another.
There’s not many places in the New Town that offer a delicious roll, drink and piece of cake for around £7. Bon Papillon have got the perfect balance for this cafe/gallery (and framers) right from the start and we’ll be back very soon.
