Leith Festival announce their 2011 programme
Famous for its many festivals, the city of Edinburgh does what it can to entertain and inspire local residents and visitors alike. From the 10th-19th June this year, the annual Leith Festival will take place, providing a celebration of vibrancy and talent in an area renowned for its sense of community, colour and flare.
The Leith Festival is a community arts festival, and specialises in showcasing both professional and amateur talent through a mixture of art, music, dance, film, theatre and comedy. Over the festival period, Leith will offer over 150 events in a variety of venues – ranging from food and drink to boxing, break dancing and cabaret.
Appealing to as wide an audience as possible, the Leith Festival aims to bridge the gap between generations and will be showcasing events designed to suit every age, interest and ability. The Gala Day on the 11th June, which will include a pageant, fairground rides, family entertainment and the famous Tug o’ War contest is a definite highlight; as is the Edinburgh Short Film Festival, a Pirates and Privateers walking tour and a Deco Dance event inspired by 1930s Hollywood glamour.
You can pick up a printed programme at supermarkets, post offices, bars and restaurants around Leith. An online copy of the programme will be available soon.
