Edinburgh to throw a party for Royal Wedding

As well as being the venue for the ‘second Royal Wedding’ in July, Edinburgh is all set to celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday 29th April.

Taking advantage of the national holiday, the centre of the city will play host to a massive street party, similar in style to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.

From 11pm on Thursday 28th, roads in the city will be closed from Queen Street to Princes Street; and from the West End to Waterloo Place, as council staff work through the night to transform the city centre into a colourful party zone.*

Royal Wedding party to be held in Edinburgh

The celebrations begin at 10am on the 29th with a parade and a pipe band performance in the Ross Bandstand. Then, from midday onwards, invited guests will take their place at a huge long table stretching from Castle Terrace to Jenners, where they will be served with a celebration banquet including deep fried mars bars as the ceremony is displayed live on giant video screens.

Access to the party will be limited to ticket holders only. We have 10 pairs to give away in our exclusive competition – simply email us at competitions@edinburghspotlight.com with a subject of ‘April Giveaway’ and we’ll draw 10 lucky winners at random after the closing date of 15th April.

Good luck and see you there!

Updated 2nd April due to the amount of competition entries we’ve received.

*If you’ve got this far and not realised, it’s an April Fool.  Sorry ;)

The excitement in this post goes to show just how successful a street party to celebrate the royal wedding would have been. Our family would have loved to have come along and joined the fun. Our kids would have had a lot of fun.

    Shame on Edinburgh City Council.
