We love the unusual at Edinburgh Spotlight and knitting jumpers for trees is our latest subject to highlight.
As part of this year’s Leith Festival , the guerilla knitting project called CoolWool aims to provide “wooly jumpers” for the tree in Leith Links. Anybody can get involved in this community project by creating 6″ x 6″ squares of any colour, type of wool and pattern. The project will run until the end of April when they will be gathered together and stitched together in time for the gala day on 11th June.
After the Leith Festival, the squares will be recycled and turned into clothing or blankets.
Finished squares can be sent to :
Leith Festival offices, 121 Giles Street, Leith, Edinburgh, EH6 6BZ
Royal Artizana (Circle of Friends) Leith Walk
Frugal Cool’s Re-made shop, Musselburgh High Street
If you have quite a few squares or there is a group of you, do let the organisers know who will arrange to collect the squares. Volunteers are also needed for the stitching the squares together.
The main CoolWool contact is Adele Conn on firstname.lastname@example.org
We have previously covered knitting club The Woolpack which is still meeting at the Sheepheid Inn once a month. You could also get some material from K1 Yarns Knitting Boutique and knit the squares in the comfort of their shop.
