PHOTO – Winter solstice lunar eclipse from Edinburgh

For around 20 minutes this morning, the lunar eclipse was clearly visible – then the clouds rolled in (at least from where we were watching) and obscured the view!

Anyway, here’s what we managed to capture.

Full moon in the early morning sky

The eclipse begins...

The eclipse begins...

..and a bit more of the moon disappears...

..and a bit more of the moon disappears...

...and a little bit more...

...and a little bit more...

…and then the clouds came in.

However, we feel privileged to have witnessed it – the first lunar eclipse on the winter solstice since 1703!

We imagine we’ll be long gone before the next time this happens on this date – but we’re sure Edinburgh will still be here and going strong!
