FRINGE REVIEW – The Ukulele Project (Underbelly)

18 – 29 August
1245-1345, Underbelly

Although they are sadly a member down, due to Steph succumbing to illness during their Edinburgh run, The Ukulele Project as a trio strum their way through a perfectly charming and joyful hour of small-stringed music at the Underbelly.

Fresh-faced and eager without one ounce of pretention between them, the group use their instruments to perform a set of inventively-chosen covers.

We therefore are treated to their uke-laden versions of classical music; a sparsely beautiful solo rendition of Radiohead’s ‘No Surprises’; and – in a set highlight – a grin-inducing cover of Gorillaz’ ‘Feel Good Inc’.

With their attitude alone, The Ukulele Project would be hard to dislike. With their plucking good talent as well, they are virtually irresistible.

Ticket information is available on the Underbelly website.
