FRINGE REVIEW – Idiots of Ants, The Red Button

*****

Until 30Aug   2025 (2125)  @ Pleasance

The Idiots are back stronger than ever with their new show The Red Button.  Their debut at the Edinburgh festival, where they ran through the streets of Edinburgh at the beginning of their show unsuitably attired, ensured they made their mark.  Then 2009 (where they initially deceived the audience into believing they were seeing a play set in a war bunker) saw them nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Awards as well as the receipt of numerous five star reviews.  Their accolades to date include radio and television appearances  for BBC and E4; they have also written material for Channel 4’s School of Comedy.

These four smartly dressed lads return; showing how far they have come since their debut their logo appears on many of the props including the chairs which are distinctively painted. The unique fast-paced sketch comedy just keeps you giggling from beginning to end.  The changeovers between sketches barely provide time to draw breath.

For regulars of the Idiots of Ants, they will notice the return of the trademark style they have adopted, including ensuring the audience are truly members of the entire show.  The house was packed, they had the audience in stitches with this fast moving sketch show.   It may seem for some that they cross the line on one or two occasions but these cheeky chappies know just how to get away with it.  All is forgiven within a second!

They possess the ability to explain thoughts through dialogue (and other props) to great comedy effect.  Their grasp of the humorous side of subjects such as bullying are tackled in an imaginative way.

As far as sketch comedy goes, it’s hard to get much better than this.  Leave with a massive smile on your face after an hour with these lads that entertain with their wit and charm.  The highest four star rating you can get!!!  Go See!
