REVIEW – Sicilian Pastry Shop, Albert Street, Leith

Albert Street treasure

Sicilian Pastry Shop – the best in Edinburgh?  We think so.

*This is an updated article from the orginal published in March 2009*

Continuing the theme of cake shops in Edinburgh, I visited the Sicilian Pastry Shop in Albert Street, Leith.

It’s at the end of Albert Street near Leith Walk and is a family run business and is extremely popular with Edinburgh residents who come from afar to order their special occasion cake.

It is also an every-day bakery, with lots of breads and small cakes to choose from.  In the name 0f research of course, I opted a cake for the bargain price of £0.93.  It was puff choux-pastry filled with creamy custard and was delicious.   As I bit into it, the cream oozed out and I was in cakey heaven.

They have a price list for bigger cakes suitable for parties and will take the order and make it for the next day, which is quick service.  They can also be made with fruit or profiteroles if you want – with the bakers taking great pride in making your cake dreams come true.

Alison, thanks for talking about this place. What can I say except the passionfruit cheesecake (chilled, not baked, I think) is breathtaking.

  2. I hope you enjoyed your wee walk down Leith to get here – it’s an interesting place ! You’re making me homesick for some decent cakes now :)
