Gorgie City Farm is an excellent trip for children of all ages. It’s still free to enter, but a suggested donation of £2 is welcome. It’s placed off Gorgie Road and is open every day from 9.30am – 4.30pm in the summer (slightly different in winter).
They’ve got a good selection of animals, turkeys, pigs, goats, sheep etc including a hands-on section where they encourage you to touch the animals.
It’s a good way to spend a couple of hours and the animals seem happy. They are also used to little people standing close by. There are mini gardens to explore
A lot of the farm workers are volunteers and this has continued to be successful through donations by local companies and the fact that Asda provides the pig food!
There is a tractor that kids are positively encouraged to climb over and there’s now a wee playground for them to let off steam. You can buy tea and coffee and have something to eat at Jemima’s Pantry which is at the exit to the farm. You can also have children’s party.
Asleep in the summer heat
It’s well worth to visit at any time of the year, especially when the lambs and calves are born, they’re so cute! There are also lots of events on during the year, so check the website out.
Suitable for disabled? On the whole yes, but the farm is on a few slopes.
