4th – 30th August (not 23rd)
1.30-2.20pm, Gilded Ballon

Gemma Goggin

Gemma Goggin

Like a ruder – and funnier – Bridget Jones, sassy stand-up Gemma Goggin is coming to to the Fringe to recount her tales of life as a single 20-something in search of…er…a little excitement.

An accomplished singer, actress and cabaret performer, Gemma will reveal all the gory details of her past dating disasters and sexual misadventures in a frank and forthright 50-minute show that promises to entertain and enlighten – but will contain absolutely no pornography.

Unless, as she puts it herself, she is asked nicely or plied with vodka and tonic.

We asked Gemma to reveal even more about her show and plans for the Fringe…

Tell us a little bit about your show – where’s it happening, what’s it about, why should people come to see it?

I’m on at the Gilded Balloon Teviot in the Turret, each day at 1.30pm – never too early for a conversation about sex!

It’s called “Get Laid or Die Trying”, which should give you some indication of the subject matter….

A show for the gents and the ladies – what we say, what we shouldn’t say, some bad dates, good and bad sex, and a couple of blow up dolls. What more could you ask for?

How will you be promoting your show?

Sexual favours…..? And the odd bit of flyering. Maybe both at the same time….

What are you most looking forward to about coming back to Edinburgh?

This is my first time up at the Festival doing comedy – last time I was up, I was playing Myra Hindley, so I’m hoping there will be a few more laughs this time round!

Plus a reasonable amount of drinking and intimate relations. It would be rude not to.

And what are you hoping for?

A sell-out run. Aren’t we all?

And to get through the plethora of condoms we bought for the photo shoot, which are burning a hole in my pocket.

If money was no object, what publicity stunt would you do to promote your show?

Hmmm. Tricky…. Project my image onto the Castle?? Free contraception to the masses?

Who else are you planning or hoping to see?

Patrick Monahan, Ava Vidal, Robert White, Roadkill at the Traverse, Phil Nicol… the list goes on.

What do you have planned for after the Fringe?

Sleep & Rehab. Sexual or otherwise.

Sum up your show in three words for us:

Filthy. Feisty. Fun.

You can buy tickets for Gemma’s show on the Gilded Balloon website.
