A small idea by a local resident has now become a public event to which everyone is invited.
The idea is to have a huge beach busk along the shores of Portobello beach providing a wide variety of music.
The organiser told us: “I like a good busker. There’s an older chap plays accordion on Porty beach and the first hint of his playing throws a bounce into my step. Besides him, the prom is strangely bereft of buskers. It seems odd and I’d like to see that change and I fancy something big to kick start the movement.”
The Big Beach Busk idea was born. Portobello promenade runs for about a mile along Edinburgh’s sea front. A long stretch of excellent beach with a couple of great pubs (the Dalriada and Espy are both good music venues) and the Beach House coffee shop. The event organisers thinks that getting 80 buskers at 20m intervals would provide an uninterrupted mile of music. Saturday August 28th is the date for your diary, with the music starting at noon and no plans for stopping.
If you’re a musician, mime, juggler, statue or robot, sign up and come down to the beach. All kinds of performers are welcome throughout the event and it’s suitable for all the family.
