EVENT – A Taste of Spain, 24-25th July 2010

Taste of Spain returns to Edinburgh on 24th and 25th July 2010

24-25th July 2010

For those itching for ‘A Taste of Spain‘, why not head to The Mound in Edinburgh on 24th and 25th July to take part in Scotland’s Spanish fiesta?  The Mound will be graced with giant paellas, flamenco dancers, music and gastronomic treats.

Music, dance and delicious ‘comida Española’ will ensure that Scots are whisked away for a day to the UK’s favourite holiday destination.  Visitors can try out an impressive golf simulator from the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote illustrating the wide range of golf courses available, or take part in a unique photo opportunity at the Gran Canaria stand where stunning digital backgrounds will create a fantastic “wow” effect.

For the foodies among us, there are numerous tastings available such as sherry and jamón tasting from the Andalucía region which will feature a professional ham carver and a traditional sherry pourer complete with traditional flamenco music from Peña Camaron de la Isla. A giant paella for over 1,000 people cooked on the spot waits to be sampled in the Region of Valencia, with chocolate, almonds and liquors from Galicia making the perfect dessert. In addition there will be a vast array of street entertainment such as modern Galician music with a traditional flair from BoNoVo and Spanish band Anima Pop, both impressing the crowds with their uplifting beats. Estrella Galicia will also be sponsoring the fantastic Cirilo band from Benidorm who will excite crowds with their indie rock tunes.

For those who prefer a more ‘relaxing’ afternoon, simply stroll through the various Spanish regions and discover the beautiful but lively Balearic Islands of Formentera which will present a fabulous arts & crafts and jewellery exhibition, Mallorca which will thrill the Scottish crowds with traditional Mallorcan bagpipe inspired band, Xeremiers and finally the ever popular island of Ibiza, which will bring its cosmopolitan atmosphere to the mound with a ‘fire and smoke’ inspired dance presentation from Foc I Fum. Top off the day with a pit-stop at Tenerife to discover the volcanic sites of the island and become immersed with the fascinating traditions, culture and gastronomy.

The event is organised by the Spanish Tourist Office who will be present not only to offer advice about all aspects of visiting the country but also to tempt passers by with delicious cheese and wine giveaways. Make sure to visit the event sponsors Jet2.com and Jet2holidays.com who will be hosting competitions throughout the weekend, offering guests great discounts on  bookings on the day as well as the opportunity to win  return flights to amazing Spanish destinations.

As well as being a fantastic day out for all of the family, A Taste of Spain 2010 provides visitors who have not made up their minds about this or next year’s holiday plans, the perfect opportunity to investigate what region of Spain they may wish to explore.

The event is on Saturday 24th July (10.30 – 6.30pm) and Sunday 25th July (10.30 – 5.30pm)
