Today I visited the opening day of ‘greatest show on earth’ aka the Royal Highland Show. You can find out all the ticket information and directions you need in our preview article. I travelled by the special LRT bus to avoid the parking charge (and hassle). The event is very well organised with plenty of maps around, helpful staff and lots of seating to have a rest when walking between sights in this vast arena.
There are plenty of animals on show and you can see them getting judged in their various classes, with excellent commentary explaining how they are scoring them. The food hall is vast and has a cookery theatre and demonstrations throughout the day. Various bars are also scattered around the grounds if you wish to have a relaxing beer whilst exploring all that the show has to offer.
There were a lot of school children in attendance today, who were enjoying the various animals, the lumberjack demonstrations and the sheep dogs rounding up the ‘quack team’. Remember that if you are visiting in the next 3 days, that children under 16 go free with a paying adult.
