We reviewed the Spice Pavilion Indian restaurant last month and was so blown away with the quality of food and service, that we immediately booked in a group meal for last Friday evening.
We contacted the friendly owner, who helped devise a suitable menu for our party of 14 and negotiated a very reasonable individual price. We opted for a buffet-style dinner and had the semi-private section of the restaurant to ourselves for the duration of the evening.
We were all warmly welcomed by the staff and took our places at the beautifully decorated tables and tucked right into some fresh poppadoms and chutneys whilst submitting our drink orders.
Our starter of mixed pakora was so perfectly cooked (and non-greasy) that all of the diners were excited to see what was being served up for the main course.
Huge trays were presented on the buffet tables of vegetable karai, chick-pea rice, lamb curry and chicken tikka masala. We soon filled up our plates and in addition were served some plain and peshwari nan bread. There was more than sufficient food for all of us, despite our ferocious appetites.
A feast fit for an Indian king? Definitely. All 14 of us remarked that we couldn’t fault the succulent lamb or the bold-flavoured masala. The vegetable karai completed our taste bud workout and soon we were all completely and utterly full.
Hot towelettes were supplied by the efficient and unobtrusive staff after our mains and enough time passed by before offering us a choice of dessert. All but one person said yes, despite 20 minutes previously stating they couldn’t eat another thing! Desserts were devoured and the good conversation continued over tea and coffee with mints.
Our experience of having a group meal here was nothing short of a perfect evening in comfortable surroundings with exquisite Indian food.
We can’t recommend Spice Pavilion highly enough and now present them with our ‘Edinburgh Spotlight recommended’ award with great pleasure.
