Nelson Monument
Now, the recently-restored 4-star attraction has reached the semi-finals of the National Lottery Award, an annual campaign to find the UK’s favourite lottery funded projects.
The Nelson Monument received a £50,000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant in 2008, allowing restoration work to be done and a new exhibition space to be installed. In addition, the famous Time Ball – which was used to signal to shipping in the Forth – has been restored to full working order.
The Monument is the only Scottish project to be included in the Heritage category of the awards, and the only Edinburgh-based one in the entire campaign.
We’ve voted for it on the National Lottery Awards site and encourage you to do the same in recognition of all the hard work and enthusiasm which has gone into restoring a city landmark!
You have until noon on June 18th to cast your vote, and the winners will be announced later in the summer.
