Belhaven has refurbished the Starbank Inn at Newhaven (The Starry to the locals).
There doesn’t seem to be that much difference in the ‘extensive refurbishment’ that has taken place. Now owned by Belhaven pubs, the Starry has 42 inch plasma televisions and a subscription to Sky Sports. I popped in yesterday and although the football is on the screen, the volume is low, allowing people to still hold conversations. The locals were obviously happy to have a nearby pub open again as it was standing room only by mid afternoon.
All the seats in the rear of the restaurant (semi-conservatory area) were full with diners sampling the new food menu. On first glance, the food is typical pub grub and an average dish is around £8-£10. I didn’t have anything to eat, but on looking at the plates on neighbouring tables, I made the right choice. Perhaps the food tastes better than it looks. One of the bar staff had trouble pulling a decent pint of ale on my visit, but I am sure her training will come in due course.
There are some tables in the beer garden which will no doubt fill quickly in the summer months.
Suitable for disabled? Despite having fully accessible toilets, there are the 5 stairs to negotiate into the pub.
