Chocolate Soup is just off the Royal Mile at Hunter Square (The Tron) and is a chocoholic’s paradise. They do a variety of soups and sandwiches here, but the real star of the show is the huge variety of hot chocolate on offer.
They also do a good selection of smoothies and ‘choctails’ which are desserts in a glass. I have eaten and drunk here many times, but I love visiting it in cooler weather, when you really can’t beat a cup full of chocolate soup!
You can get a pure shot of hot chocolate for £1.50 which is basically a spoonful of the chocolate soup. Basic hot chocolate starts at £2 which is the above, with a little milk added. You can also get some of these options in white chocolate flavour.
I opted for the hot chocolate sundae at £2.50 which had cream and chocolate sauce on top and a banana toffee muffin (which was microwave heated). I cannot fault the drink, but the cake wasn’t the best quality, but was of course, finished.
The place is always busy with a mixture of people in the booths seats, at the tables and on the stools. It is counter service and I wasn’t particularly impressed with the speed of the staff who then had the cheek to push the tip jar forward as I was handed my change.
There are tables outside in the warmer months and everything is available to take away.
The hot chocolate deserves five stars, but because of the service and cake quality, I am awarding it three.
Suitable for disabled ? There are the steps up in the picture, but once inside, the seating is on ground level.
