REVIEW – Word of Mouth Cafe, Albert Place

Albert Place

The Word of Mouth Cafe in Albert Place is a gem of a place for a drink and cake, a cooked breakfast, lunch or dinner.  The menu caters for all tastes and does a good selection of vegetarian dishes.

The seating is cozy and service friendly.  The menu is layed out in a book style with Chapter One starting with breakfast.  Hot filled rolls are reasonable at £1.70 for a doubler and the full cooked ensemble with juice and tea or coffee can be yours for £6.  Moving on to lunch in Chapter Two, there are soups, salads and ciabattas  available with  Mezze plates featuring in Chapter Three (any five for £15 with free fries).  Dinner is the last to appear in Chapter Four, with specials changing regularly.  It’s BYOB for dinner, with 70p corkage for beer and £3 for wine.

The epilogue is the drinks selection which feature all the usual suspects at reasonable prices.  There is a great selection of teas to choose from, and one of my favourites here is the simple but classic hot chocolate with marshmallows, £1.80

Quality hot chocolate

It’s always served piping hot and works perfectly with one of their home made cakes.

Word of Mouth strives to keep their produce “ethically opulent” by using free range chicken and halal meat.  They love to use local Leith companies as suppliers and endeavour to recycle all their rubbish.

Current Regular Events

– Open mic on various Friday nights

– Pudding nights

– Free tea for OAP’s every Tuesday morning when they buy a cake

– French lessons on Tuesday nights from 6pm

Verdict?   Great place for something to eat, whatever time of day.

Suitable for disabled?    The main cafe part is on ground level, but the bathrooms are located down the stairs
