REVIEW – Spectacles Outlet, Peffer Place

Spectacles Outlet

Spectacles Outlet may seem a little off the beaten track to order your glasses, but the prices are simply amazing and cannot be matched by any other shop in Edinburgh.  Quality is not compromised and customer service is great with no pressure to buy, but at the low prices, you’ll be stocking up.

For both sexes, simple frames with basic lenses start from £35 (there is a budget option for £20) with a great range to choose from, including designer ones.  Brands such as Police, Guess and Gant start from £55 inclusive of lenses.  The pricing is colour coded and what you see is what you pay.  I think the highest price was £95/£105.

There is also a good range of sunglass frames, with the additional cost of £5 added to put the tinted filter in them.

I ordered two pairs of glasses and added anti-glare protection in my every day pair for £15 and turned one pair into sunglasses for £5.  Total cost?  £110 for two pairs, but only £90 for the two frames with lenses.  Having had my eyes tested at a High Street opticians, I enquired about the minimum cost I would have to pay for my needs.  I was told £180 for basic range selection because there was currently a buy one get one free offer on.  Normal price would be over £300 with the added extras.

Why are they so cheap?   The shop outlet is at the front of the factory in which your lenses are made, which keeps costs down.    I was told about this place by a friend who saved lots of money and am now spreading the word across town.  You could have a meal, a night out, and get a taxi to and from Peffer Place and still save money on High Street prices!  My turn around was ordering on a Friday and collecting on a Tuesday and completely satisfied with the service and product received.

They are open Monday to Saturday 8am to 5.30pm and Sunday 12 to 4pm.  You can also make a private appointment if these opening hours don’t suit.

The map of where you can find them is very helpful.  As soon as you see Blindcraft on your right, keep driving down that same road and just before the road ends with bollards, you will see the unit on your left hand side.  Pedestrians can access from the other side.
