I ordered a Saliscce e Spinaci pizza which had 100% pork sausage, free range egg and pan fried spinach, £9.00. It was beautifully cooked, chockfull of meat and left no room for complaint. My dining partner ordered a semplice beef burger with pan fried onions at £6.95. The quality of the meat was excellent and the salad tossed in a lovely dressing.
My only complaint about the first course was the length of time we had to wait. 35-40 minutes from ordering in a half empty restaurant at 1.40pm. I don’t know why it took so long but I had to endure looking at other people’s dishes come out of the kitchen hatch whilst waiting on mine.
Dessert was on the cards of course, with my dining partner choosing the New York cheesecake, £4.75, which was indeed the style that the Americans love – extra creamy.
I opted for the ‘old time favourite’ – the banoffi at £4.95. Served in a ramekin dish, I worked my way through the dish where the toffee top was the star of the dessert. It was a sugar hit and only for those with a serious sweet tooth, but delicious. The banana centre and biscuit base were also sublime and all over far too soon.
The service (apart from the initial wait) was alert and courteous and a friend joined us easily for coffee after the food. We had a booth table next to the window and where I was positioned I had to stare at all the cup cakes for the duration of my meal.
I have always previously sat facing outwards in the restaurant and did find the back wall a little uninspiring, so chose to enjoy the light coming through the window.
Zanzero excels in the quality of its food and a great place in Stockbridge for a meal.
