REVIEW – Iglu, Jamaica Street

*****
Iglu in Jamaica Street is a wonderful place in the New Town which offers relaxed and unfussy dining and drinking.  Iglu uses local and organic produce and although they have a fabulous selection of wine and beers, they offer Artisan roast coffee, rumoured to be the best in Edinburgh.

I visited one Saturday for an early lunch with a friend but we ended up ordering the same dishes.  Even on a Saturday, there was a set menu for 2 courses, although we ended up paying a  small supplement for the steak.

For starter we had vegatatian haggis spring rolls, salad and sweet chili sauce.

Haggis and sweet chili wasn’t a combination I had tried before, but it was really tasty without the sauce being too spicy.

We both ordered steak for our main and it was perfectly cooked with lovely garlic butter melting over the meat as it was served.  The chips were handcut, thick and delicious.

Time did not allow for dessert, but the cheescake or cappuccino mousse looked tempting.  We finished our meal with a lovely organic tea and continued our day.

A wonderful little find in the heart of the New Town.
