Cupcakes and Ribbons were my company of choice when I decided for my friends’ birthday she was getting some cakes! As a fellow cake aficionado, I knew the present would go down well and was hoping and praying in the wings that I would get to taste one (or two).
Dealing with Fiona who runs the company, was really easy, friendly and efficient. I ordered my cakes online giving ample notice, but there is a five day minimum requirement to get your cakes and ten days for special orders such as diet cup cakes and special orders. I paid online, but cheques are still accepted, but have to clear before baking commences, so do it in plenty of time.
The choice of cupcake is varied ranging from standard cupcake flavours such as carrot and tangy lemon, through to the supreme cupcake offerings of lime and chocolate chilli, banoffee and chocolate heaven. The whole list can be found here and even includes some savoury options.
My order was slightly different in that I wanted text on the cakes, spelling out that it was my friends’ birthday. They were originally going to spell out, LISA IS 30 – HA HA, but decided to drop the laughter since I am older than her!
I do feel I am somewhat an expert in commenting on anything cake related as tasting tray bakes, cream cakes and anything that vaguely resembles a cake is most definately my number one hobby.
I tried one of the chocolate ones and was instantly transported to a chocoholics dream place to be! The cake was beautifully moist with the frosting equally delicious, which was lovely and soft. Full marks for these cakes which had been lovingly made by Fiona.
For the quality of cakes, I found them to be competitively priced, as I have tasted other cupcakes in various cafes in Edinburgh and from local shops which have been nowhere near the quality of these ones.
You can collect the cakes yourself or have them delivered to you for a small additional fee.
Cupcakes and ribbons offer many other services such as children’s parties, themed baby shower packages, lunches and high teas. You can also book Fiona to help out with a cupcake evening where you get to bake the cakes with her help and of course taste them afterwards.
Fiona and her cakes are appearing at this weekends’ Foodies Festival at the Assembly Rooms on the 5th and 6th where she will be running a cupcake masterclass. What better way to try them out and then order the perfect Christmas present.
Edinburgh Spotlight is offering two entrance tickets for the price of one making it a reasonably priced entrance (valid both days)
If your mouth is not already watering at the prospect of Cupcake and Ribbons’ cakes, then their gallery should help you further. You don’t need to wait till a special occasion to try some of these out, it’s good for the soul to treat yourself from time to time.
Thoroughly recommended from Edinburgh Spotlight, for service, presentation and quality.
