Tea Tree Tea 13 Bread Street, Edinburgh EH3 9AL 0131 228 3100
Tea Tree Tea, in Bread Street is a firm favourite of Edinburgh Spotlight and today’s visit was the third of the week. It has previously been a spotlight feature of ours and we simply love the place !
A warm welcome ensued today from Drew, one of the owners, who called my mum ‘lass’ throughout our visit (she’s not been called that for a long time!) He is still wearing shorts, despite the weather but definitely knows it’s winter as he was sporting a rather fetching headband made of tinsel.
After spending time at the Santa Gardens, I was in need of warming up and chose a bowl of porridge to begin with. They do both sweet or salt versions at £1.50 each and for an extra 20 pennies, I opted for fruit and nuts on the top.
It was a generous portion and my mum was impressed with the quality, as was I. Almost as good as the great Granny of the Spotlight family, who at 93, still takes her spurtle out on a daily basis.
Beautiful tea accompanied the porridge (various prices according to blend) along with a crossaint, butter and jam, £1.20.
A wonderful way to spend an hour warming up, eating and enjoying the atmosphere in this gem of a place.
A lovely addition for Christmas is the mistletoe above the door, so make use of it when you pay them a visit.
Christmas hours are as follows. Open as normal including 23rd, closing 1.30pm on Christmas Eve and re-open on Monday 28th at 7am. Hours as normal 29th and 30th till closing at 3pm on Hogmanay. Re-opens on the 4th normal hours.
Suitable for disabled ? There is one step up to the shop, but the staff are more than happy to assist with wheel chairs and help you inside (they are strapping lads after all) There is plenty of room to manoeuvre once inside. Unfortunately the bathrooms are located downstairs.
