The Edinburgh Farmers Market

It was a beautiful summers’ day  and it was pretty busy, even though I visited at 10am.

There are all sorts of local produce available here, fresh bread and cakes from Valvona and Crolla, Stoats Porridge, fresh berries, Creelers Fish, hand made crisps, hog’s roast, fresh farm eggs etc etc

Valvona & Crolla

The baked produce at Valvona & Crolla was flying off the shelves.

And they come from far and wide to sell their produce.  The Black Isle Brewery also had a stall full of their beers.

Chocolate Tree

Chocolate Tree

My favourite stalls were the sweet ones !  Chocolate Tree (based in Haddington) sells a delicious selection of handmade chocolate, including chilli flavour !

Border Tablet, based in Langholm sells all things shortbread and tablet at good prices.  Based on a recipe from the stall owners’ mum from 1912 !

The majority of the stalls are there every week, but some are only there every second Saturday.  Full details – HERE

Stoats

Stoats

For me personally, it wasn’t a morning for Stoats porridge when it was 22 degrees at 10am, but normally, this is a great way to start the day.

There is some seating that you can relax on with your food purchases.

I noticed that a popular way to get to the market was by bike (plenty of places to chain your bike to) and then people would cycle off with their shopping bags bulging with fresh produce.

The Edinburgh Farmers Market really has improved since it started and it’s a great way to support local businesses who have wonderful produce

Edinburgh Farmers Market overviewOver 55 specialist producers currently attend the market. The majority of stallholders are primary producers, growing what they sell. A quarter offer meat products, including specialities such as wild boar, venison, ostrich and water buffalo. Organic beef, chicken, lamb and pork are also available. Other types of produce include fish (lobster in season), free-range eggs, cheese, seasonal fruit & vegetables, honey, chillies and plants. In addition you’ll find producers who bake and prepare their own farm products. Guest producers provide specialities including organic beer, liqueurs, bread, chocolates and chutneys.

Suitable for disabled ?    Yes, flat even surface, with ample room :)
