Athenian Acropolis – Calton Hill

Calton Hill is one of Edinburgh’s main hills, set right in the city centre.  It is unmistakable with its Athenian acropolis poking above the skyline.   It was never completed due to lack of funds.  More information HERE

You are allowed to climb all over it and it’s a favourite for tour groups to get their photo taken on it.

The views of Edinburgh from Calton Hill are outstanding.  You can see the skyline down Princes Street, over to the North – the sea and Fife.  You can see Leith and a great view of Arthurs Seat.    You can also climb the Nelson Monument and get an even better view – info HERE

You are also allowed to climb all over the canon that’s there – don’t be shy and pose for a great photo !

Walk up from the East End of Princes Street, various access points.

SUITABLE FOR DISABLED ?      Yes if you are travelling by car.  Enter via the access on Regent Road (just before the Old Royal High School) and drive up to the car park (free).  You will get good views from various sloping paths.
