REVIEW – The Royal Botanical Gardens, Inverleith

The Royal Botanic Gardens are just a 10 minute walk from where I live and I visit there at least once a week. They are simply beautiful and it’s a nice escape from busy Edinburgh Roads.

The gardens are beautiful at any time of the year, but at the moment, the signs of Spring are definately showing.

There are good facilities in the Botanics, including a cafe with outdoor seating area.  Benches are placed all over the gardens, so you can sit and soak up the atmosphere or the view of the Edinburgh skyline from the gardens

Children are positively encouraged to run around and enjoy the free space, chase the pigeons, feed the squirrels.

Admission is free, but some exhibitions and the hot houses charge (they are open 10 – 5 and you can get free entry from 4.30pm).  There is one free palm house which could give you an injection of heat on a cool day.

How to get there  -   There are regular public bus services (Lothian Buses 8, 23 or 27) to the East Gate on Inverleith Row)  just ask the driver to let you know when to get off.

Suitable for disabled ?      Yes, there is a good network of smooth paths around the gardens, although there are a few slopes.  Also have a disabled toilet by the East gate and in the cafe   :)
