REVIEW – Lunch at Rick's, Frederick Street

*****

Had a very enjoyable lunch at Rick’s in Frederick Street today.

My two friends and I opted for their set lunch menu.  This costs £9.95 and includes a glass of house wine (or soft drink) and the choice of any 2 courses  i.e  starter and main or main and dessert.

A good selection to choose from, including vegetarian options and for dessert there was a choice of cheese and biscuit along side the sweet choices.

Service was a little on the slow side today if I was being honest as the restaurant was quite busy.  The staff were very pleasant and courteous and we had a mixture of waiters and waitresses throughout our meal as they all helped each other out.

We all opted for the Scottish beef burger served with a little salad and fries and it was delicious.

I don’t think this photo does the meat justice, the flavour was great and the plates definately empty afterwards !

We were left with enough time to digest our main before we had to choose dessert and again we all decided on the same thing (our waitress had an easy job today !) and went for the warm chocolate brownie with ice cream.

This didn’t last long on the plate either !

We drank coffee aswell and weren’t rushed out at all,  2 1/2 hours total for our lunch and at £34 for 3 of us including wine, we thought it was very good value.

My only criticism of Rick’s is that the dining area for lunchtime was slightly dark.  It was a bright sunny day outside and we felt we had stepped into a night time setting for food, not a lunch time one.  It was enough for us all to comment on not being able to see the menu properly, but our eyes soon adjusted.

Rick’s is part of the Montpelier chain of restaurants in Edinburgh (all different menus and names though) and I am glad to say their food standard and service here is as good as their other places.

Suitable for disabled ?    No, unfortunately not as you access the restaurant via stairs down into the basement level.    :(      There is seating outside for sunny days and you could perhaps reserve one of them, but the bathrooms are still at the rear of the restaurant down the stairs.
