REVIEW – Breakfast at Cafe Rouge, Frederick Street

Cafe Rouge on Frederick Street has been around for years. It’s popular with the locals and a great place to spend an afternoon in the summer months as they have outdoor seating that gets the sun most of the day.

I’ve not been for a couple of years, as I have heard mixed reviews including bad service and poor food.  I was tempted back today when I received a voucher for £10 by filling out this form on their website and a no catch voucher was emailed to me to spend before 8th February 2009.

We were welcomed by the waiter who promptly took our order for drinks.  I had tea since I don’t drink coffee, but my friend said that the coffee was beautiful. The tea was good, generous sized pot, enough for over 2 cups.  My friend had ordered hot milk with the coffee, which the waiter forgot as he delivered our drinks to the table, but he returned to the kitchen and brought some hot milk back with a smile on his face.

My friend and I both had the eggs benedict at £5.25 each (normal price without voucher) and they were lovely.

It didn’t take long to finish them off !

The waiter was polite and courteous throughout our breakfast and allowed us to use our voucher without any fuss and was delighted when he got a big tip (since the food was free) for a Monday morning.

There were only a few other customers dining when we were there, but the restaurant had a nice atmosphere about it and it’s good to get a window seat to stare at the world go by.

Highly recommended.
