REVIEW – Indigo Yard

Indigo Yard is an institution in Edinburgh that consistently serves up good food at reasonable city prices.  Even better if you join their mailing list here as they regularly send out offers, including 2 for 1’s, one of which I used today (yes, even 2 days before Christmas !).  Indigo Yard is part of the Montpelier chain of restaurants in the town, others being, Candy Bar, Tiger Lily, Montpeliers, Rick’s, Assembly.

It is down Charlotte Lane, off Queensferry Street, (you will see the back of Pizza Express next door).    Advisable to book ahead if eating at busy times, it is popular.

Suitable for anyone really, also popular with mums who lunch with babies and buggies in tow.  I ate there with my mum and grabbed a ‘booth seat’ which are very comfy and you feel seperate from the other diners, but they can accommodate larger numbers at the tables.

Huge menu to choose from, but since it’s Christmas, I plumped for the rib eye steak with home cut chips and mushroom sauce at £13.95 (but using 2 for 1 voucher).  The photo doesn’t do the size of the food justice, but it filled me up easily.   The chips are actually big potato size and the steak larger than them, not the size of 5 normal chips !!  It was beautifully cooked, as the food always is and the service was friendly but not over bearing.

I’ve been eating here for over 15 years (they also do great breakfasts and dinner) and thoroughly recommend a visit.

SUITABLE FOR DISABLED ?    Yes, the main restaurant is on ground level and so are the bathrooms   :)
